Marty Williams

At-Large Urban (Term expires June 30, 2022)

Marty Williams has extensive leadership experience at the state and local government levels in Virginia.  Williams’ public service began in 1990 when he was elected to the Newport News City Council and was twice selected as Vice Mayor by his peers. As member of the Newport News City Council, he represented the city on a variety of regional boards and commissions, interacting with local political and administrative leaders across the state. Williams was elected to the Virginia State Senate in 1995, representing the Virginia Peninsula and was named Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee in 1999, where he served until 2007.

Throughout his tenure, Williams worked with local officials and sponsored transportation legislation important to Virginia and the Hampton Roads region.  He has a thorough understanding of the interests and operations of local and state levels of government.  Governor Terry McAuliffe appointed Williams to the CTB in 2014.

Prior to establishing River City Strategies, LLC, in 2011, Williams was employed at Malcolm Pirnie/Arcadis US from 2000 to 2011 in a business development position.
