Shannon Valentine

Lynchburg District (Term expires June 30, 2019)

Shannon Valentine, a writer and public speaker, is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates. She was appointed to the Commonwealth Transportation Board by Gov. Terry McAuliffe in May 2014, following an assignment as a director of the Transportation Policy Council for the Governor’s transition team.  

Valentine is a founding member of OneVirginia2021: Virginians for Fair Redistricting, a vice chair of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia, and chair of Investor Relations for Beacon of Hope, an organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing students for post-secondary education.

During her time in the legislature, her public policy priorities included ethics, economic development, education, and transportation. She served as a member of Courts of Justice and House Transportation Committees, and led the bipartisan effort to invest in intercity passenger rail service for the first time in Virginia’s history.

Valentine graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia in Economics, and from Education for Ministry, a four-year program through Sewanee University’s School of Theology.  

Valentine is married to Dr. Mike Valentine, and has three children, Catherine, Jack and Brooke.
